Wingate’s Marcel Snitko earns SAC Swimmer of the Week honors

Official SAC release

Rock Hill, S.C.----Wingate University senior freestyle specialist Marcel Snitko (Bad Zwischenahn, Germany) is this week's South Atlantic Conference Swimmer of the Week, league officials announce Tuesday. Snitko receives this award for the second time in his career.

Snitko had a solid weekend in the Queens University of Charlotte Kellianne Nagy Fall Frenzy last weekend. The Bulldog All-American posted NCAA B cuts in the 100 and the 200 Freestyle events. He was the top South Atlantic Conference performer in both races as Wingate defeated both Catawba and Lenoir-Rhyne in the six-team meet.

What They Are Saying
Wingate associate head coach for men's swimming Kevin Hennessy

"Marcel has gotten better and better as the season has progressed. This past weekend was by far his best races of the year to this point. He is off to a great start for his senior year. We are all excited to see Marcel and our entire men's team compete again when we head to the SCAD Savannah Invite in a couple of weeks."

Wingate senior student-athlete Marcel Snitko

"This season is going pretty well so far…Swimming under head coach Kirk Sanocki is different than it was the previous seasons, but I'm confident that his planning will work out. The team has had some up and downs, me included, with the flu going around the team. Overall, we're going in the right direction."

"The freshmen this year really give us upperclassmen some good competition in practice and meets, because they are very motivated and competitive. I like this a lot and believe that they will help us succeed in the future championships."

"The Fall Frenzy meet this past weekend was a test for our swimmers to see where we are at this point of the season. Our focus is on the SCAD Savannah meet Dec. 1-3. I think the team will do remarkably well at SCAD, since we already did brilliantly as a team at Fall Frenzy."

Next on the #WUSWIM agenda

Wingate will compete in the 17th annual SCAD Savannah Invitational Dec. 1-3 at the Chatham County Aquatic Center. The Wingate women have won 11 SCAD Savannah Invite team crowns, while the Bulldog men have received 10 first-place trophies in the annual event.
