Charlotte, N.C.----The nationally-ranked Wingate University men's and women's swimming teams won eight-of-10 events on the first night of the inaugural South Atlantic Conference championship meet at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center (MCAC) Wednesday. Both Bulldog squads occupy first place on the team leader boards.
The Wingate women's 200 Medley Relay will go down in history as the first SAC gold medalists, as they touched first in the evening's opening event. Junior

Marta Beesmans Barquero and
Kelsea Munro and freshman
Natalia Dwojak as the quartet posted a triumphant time of 1:41.79 (D2 B cut).
On the team charts, the Wingate women lead Carson-Newman by exactly 100 points (534-434). The Bulldog men lead their C-N Eagle counterparts by a 488-396 margin. The Navy Blue and Vegas Gold-clad Wingate student-athletes return to the pool for day two preliminaries Thursday morning at 10 a.m. Finals on Thursday evening will start at 5 p.m.

Event 1
Women's 200 Medley Relay
Bulldog newcomers Beesmans Barquero and Dwojak swam the first leg and the anchor leg, respectively. Wenhold swam the second leg, while Munro took the baton for the third leg.
Event 3
Women's 1000 Freestyle
Agger took the checkered flag with her time of 9:57.20. She narrowly missed her personal-best and school-record mark of 9:56.01, established in the 2022 Bluegrass Mountain Conference championships in the same MCAC pool.
Event 4
Men's 1000 Freestyle
Sophomore
Miguel Marcos shaved 17 seconds from his seed time, claiming the gold medal with his mark of 9:11.02. Sophomore
Michele Orru finished second as five Bulldogs found a spot on the All-SAC team for this event.
Event 5
Women's 200 Individual Medley
Freshman
Natalia Dwojak edged Lenoir-Rhyne senior Lisa Boernigen by 0.04 seconds to take first place in the 200
Individual Medley. Dwojak posted a gold-medal time of 2:03.08, while Boernigen won the silver with her 2:03.12 mark. Seniors
Lily Sanocki and
Gracie Williams joined Dwojak on the All-SAC team.

Men's 200 Individual Medley
Senior
Marcel Snitko won the gold medal with a time of 1:47.20. Snitko is inching closer-and-closer to
Spencer Waganaar's school-record time of 1:46.71 (2013 BMC meet). Freshmen

Jack Wisniewski made the All-SAC team as well.

Women's 50 Freestyle
Sophomores
Lucie Andrews and
Kelsea Munro finished second (23.26) and third (23.29), respectively. Junior
Amanda Wenhold joined her teammates on the All-SAC squad.
Event 8
Men's 50 Freestyle
Senior
Slava Ohnov won the sprint race with his time of 19.98. Freshmen

Jonatan Carlsson finished fourth and sixth, respectively, to claim All-SAC laurels.
Event 9
Women's 200 Freestyle Relay
Andrews, Dwojak, Wenhold and Munro won the event with a time of 1:32.75. Dwojak, Wenhold and Munro swam on both victorious relays Wednesday night.
Event 10
Men's 200 Freestyle Relay
Ohnov, Chagas Filho, Carlsson and Snitko won the evening's final event with a time of 1:20.44.

Wingate University
Founded in 1896, Wingate University is a laboratory of difference-making that serves more than 3,400 students in North Carolina.
