Wingate, N.C.----The 2023 indoor track and field season will go down as one to remember for the Wingate University Bulldogs. The South Atlantic Conference members won two national championships in the men's DMR and the men's 3000 meters last weekend. Freshman
Hamza Chahid brought home two national champion trophies, while graduate student
Moena Battle led the Wingate women with a bronze medal in the high jump.
In February, both Wingate teams won South Atlantic Conference titles for the first time in school history. The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) is taking notice of Wingate's unparalleled successes, as the organization gave 32 Bulldog student-athletes All-Southeast Region (SER) indoor laurels in 39 events.
Wingate men's notes
- Wingate's national champion DMR quartet earned first team AA and All-SER honors
- Team members:
Lars Laros,

Jakob Rettschlag and
Hamza Chahid
- Chahid was the indoor national champion and first team AA in the 3000 meters
- Chahid, Laros and Rettschlag earned All-SER in two individual events each
- All total, six Bulldogs won multiple All-SER laurels
- Chahid was All-SER in the mile and the 3000 meters
- Laros was All-SER in the mile and the 3000 meters as well
- Rettschlag was All-SER in the 800 meters and the mile

Cas Kopmels was All-SER in the 3000 meters and the 5000 meters

Scott Nutter joined Kopmels as first team All-SER in the same two events

Dennis Trukawka was All-SER in the long jump and the heptathlon
- Trukawka won the SAC Elite 23 Award for men's track and field
- Eleven 'Dogs won one All-SER award each, led by NCAA qualifier

Grace Burrell joined Alonso, Bo, Brickley and Heath as a multiple All-SER award winner
- Burrell received her All-SER awards in the 3000 meters and the 5000 meters
- Nine Bulldogs won one All-SER award each, led by NCAA bronze medalist Battle (HJ)
Wingate University
