Wingate’s Amber Scott receives SAC Athlete of the Week laurels

Official SAC release

Rock Hill, S.C.----
Wingate University sophomore distance specialist Amber Scott (Nottinghamshire, United Kingdom) is this week's South Atlantic Conference Varsity Gems Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week, league officials announce this week. Scott receives this accolade for the first time in her career.

Scott collected a silver medal as Wingate opened its 2023 outdoor track and field season. She finished second in the Charlotte 49er Classic 5000 meters this past weekend, thanks to her personal-best time of 17:32.47. Scott's Charlotte 49er Classic effort moves her to No. 5 on Wingate's career top 10 list for the outdoor 5000 meters.

What They Are Saying
Wingate head cross country coach and assistant track and field coach Pol Domenech

"We are very proud of Amber's progress. After fighting through some illness by the end of cross country season and not being able to show her true level at the national championships, we are very happy to see her back where she belongs. The 5000 meters last Friday was a solid opener for her. This gives us much confidence moving forward."

Next on the agenda for Wingate track and field

Next on the agenda for the Navy Blue and Vegas Gold-clad Bulldogs is the Raleigh Relays Friday. North Carolina State University is hosting this event at the Paul H. Derr Track on the NCSU campus in Raleigh.
