Rock Hill, S.C.----The regular season SAC co-champion Wingate University Bulldogs had seven players earn All-South Atlantic Conference accolades Wednesday morning, when the women's tennis all-conference teams were announced.
Elena Gunfaus and
Chloe Kosmrlj are first team All-SAC singles selections,
Suzuka Sambyakugari is a second team honoree, while
Fernanda Castillo and
Flaminia Guidantoni pick up third team accolades. The doubles duo of Kosmrlj and Sambuakugari earn first team All-SAC honors, with the
Saga Berggren/
Gaya Solomon doubles team picking up third team accolades.
Kosmrlj earns All-SAC singles honors for the first time in her career, picking up first team accolades. The sophomore has played all 18 of her singles matches at number one singles this year, going 13-5 which includes an 8-3 mark in league play.
Gunfaus earns first team All-SAC honors for the second time in her career. She picked up first team accolades in 2021, when she was also named the SAC Freshman of the Year. Gunfaus is 8-4 on the season, going 7-2 at two singles while also compiling a 1-0 record at number one singles. She is 5-2 against SAC opponents this season.
Sambyakugari is an All-SAC singles selection for the first time in her career. The sophomore is 13-4 on the year, going 6-1 at two singles and 7-1 at three singles. She is 8-2 against conference opponents on the season. Sambyakugari is 32-6 in her two-year Bulldog career in singles play.
Castillo earns third team All-SAC singles honors in her first season with the Bulldogs. The freshman has gone 16-1 on the year, notching nine wins at five singles while adding six victories at six singles to go along with a win at four singles. Castillo is 11-1 against SAC opponents this year.
Guidantoni earns all-conference singles accolades for the first time in her career. The senior is 16-3 on the season, going 9-0 at three singles while adding six victories at four singles to go along with a win at five singles. Guidantoni is 10-2 against league opposition.
The Kosmrlj/Sambyakugari duo earn first team All-SAC doubles honors for the first time. Sambyakugari was a first team All-SAC doubles selection last season, teaming with Camilla Ciaccia to earn ITA All-American accolades. Kosmrlj was a second team doubles honoree in 2022. The duo is 9-5 this season, with all 14 of those matches coming at number one singles. They are 5-2 against SAC opponents this year.
The Berggren/Solomon duo picks up All-SAC accolades for the first time, with both players earning league honors for the first time in their careers. They are 8-1 on the season, going 6-1 at three doubles while adding a 2-0 record at two doubles. They have gone 5-1 in SAC play.
Wingate is the number two seed in this week's SAC Tournament. The Bulldogs open things up Thursday morning, facing Lenoir-Rhyne at 9 a.m. at the Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter, S.C. The winner advances to Friday's semifinals to face the Newberry vs. Limestone winner at 9 a.m. The championship match is set for Saturday at 9 a.m. in Sumter.
