Wingate’s Kamer and Knowles earn Varsity Gems SAC Player of the Week honors

Rock Hill, S.C.----The 10th-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs swept the league honors Monday afternoon, with Paige Kamer earning Varsity Gems South Atlantic Conference women's lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week honors and Leah Knowles collecting Defensive Player of the Week accolades. Knowles is the Defensive Player of the Week for the third straight week, while earning Player of the Week accolades for the fifth time in her career. Kamer earns her second Offensive Player of the Week honor of the season.

The duo led the 10th-ranked Bulldogs to another 2-0 week, as Wingate rolled to two more dominant SAC wins to stay perfect in league play. The 'Dogs opened the week with an 18-5 victory at Lenoir-Rhyne, while cruising to a 20-1 win over UVA Wise. Wingate has won seven straight, moving to 11-2 overall and 7-0 in league play. All 11 wins have come by double figures.

Kamer piled up 16 points on the week, collecting eight points in each contest. The graduate student started her week with two goals and six assists at Lenoir-Rhyne, adding a pair of ground balls while collecting her 100th career assist in the process. Kamer followed with three goals and five assists in the UVA Wise victory.

Knowles had nine caused turnovers in the two victories, adding 17 draw controls and four ground balls to go along with four goals and seven assists. The All-American started her week with six caused turnovers, seven draw controls and three ground balls at LR, going over 200 career points. Knowles had three more caused turnovers Saturday while piling up 10 draw controls to go along with a ground ball, three goals and four assists.

Kamer has 25 goals and 42 assists this season, leading the SAC in assists and points. She ranks third in the nation in total assists, sixth in points, sixth in assists per game and sixth in points per game. Knowles has 45 goals, 18 assists, 38 caused turnovers, 93 draw controls and 28 ground balls. She leads the nation in caused turnovers, ranking fourth in caused turnovers per game, eighth in goals, 10th in points and 10th in draw controls per game.

The Bulldogs are back in action Saturday, hosting Anderson at 3 p.m.
