Nationally-ranked Wingate is second in Emory Fall Invite

Atlanta, Ga.----The nationally-ranked Wingate University men's and women's swimming teams are competing in the two-day Emory Fall Invitational, hosted by the EU Eagles at the Madeleine Jude Brown Aquatic Center. The event concludes Saturday with session two beginning at 11 a.m. EST.
 
The No. 5 Wingate women are second in the five-team standings with 233.5 points through nine events. NCAA Division III No. 2 Emory has 394 points. No. 14 Carson-Newman is third with 199.5 points. NCAA Division I Georgia Southern and NAIA the University of the Cumberlands are fourth and fifth, respectively.
 
On the men's side, the No. 7 Bulldogs are second on the four-team charts with 251 points. NCAA Division III No. 1 Emory leads the way with 364 points. Carson-Newman is third with 194 markers. Cumberlands occupies fourth place on the men's charts.
 
Men's notes
 
- Sophomore Damir Ipkaev finished second in the 500 Free (4:31.63)
- Freshman Yassine Sebbata finished second in the 100 Free (44.73)
- Senior team captain Alex Smyre was second in the 200 Fly (1:49.71)
- All three times listed above are NCAA Division II B cuts
 
Women's notes
 
- Junior Natalia Dwojak had three podium finishes for the Bulldogs
- She swam the anchor leg of the 200 Free Relay (1:36.75, fifth-place)
- She swam the breaststroke leg of the 400 Medley Relay (3:52.55, fifth-place)
- Dwojak finished sixth in the 100 Breaststroke (1:05.05)
