Women's Triathlon

No. 1 Wingate competes in the USA Triathlon Collegiate Regional qualifier Saturday

Troutman, N.C.----The No. 1 Wingate University women's triathlon team will participate in the USA Triathlon Collegiate East Regional qualifier at Lake Norman State Park Saturday. The women's NCAA meet begins at 10 a.m. The Bulldogs are the three-time defending team champions.
 
Last competition
 
The NCAA Division II No. 1 Wingate women's triathlon team earned a first-place finish in the Robious Landing Triathlon September 28. Division I the U.S. Naval Academy finished second, while South Atlantic Conference rival Lenoir-Rhyne took third.
 
Sophomore Irmak Sereflioğlu had her best race of the season, taking second place with her time of 56:13.17. The Bulldogs had four student-triathletes in the top 11. Senior Katja Krenn finished seventh, while junior Grace Nolan and freshman Beate Bula were 10th and 11th, respectively.
 
Looking back at the 2024 East Regional qualifier
 
For the third consecutive yearthe No. 1 Wingate women's triathlon team was the top NCAA Division II finisher in the USA Triathlon Collegiate East Regional qualifier in Virginia. Three Bulldog student-athletes finished second, third and fourth to lead the Wingate charge.
 
Irmak Sereflioğlu finished second, thanks to her time of 1:00:50.8. Team captain and '25 graduate Carla Larrabeiti was third (1:00:51.8), only one second behind her teammate. Paula Auschill claimed fourth place (1:01:07.3). Lenoir-Rhyne's Sabrina Fleig was the top D2 competitor with her time of 1:00:07.8.
