Toccoa, Ga.----The No. 9 Wingate University men's golf team won its first 2025-26 tournament Tuesday, taking home the hardware in the Currahee Collegiate Invitational at the
Currahee Golf Club. The Bulldogs shot a five-under-par 283 Tuesday to complete 54 holes at 21-under-par 843. No. 13 USC Aiken was a distant second, 23 strokes back at two-over-par 866. This year's CCI event was co-hosted by Anderson University and Erskine College.

Skidmore earns first career individual title; Three 'Dogs in top seven

Sophomore All-American
Brandon Skidmore won his first career individual title in a playoff. Both Skidmore and Emmanuel (Ga.) sophomore
Lukas Lautrup-Nissen finished 54 holes at 12-under-par 204. Both players shot 68 Tuesday. Skidmore won the medalist playoff on the par-three 17th hole with a three. Lautrup-Nissen settled for a bogey four.

Skidmore was playing in his second career medalist playoff. In the '25 NCAA South/Southeast Regional tournament, the first-year Bulldog lost a playoff to North Georgia's
Jack Vajda. His Currahee Collegiate Invitational score of 204 is a career-low. Skidmore posted a 10-under-par 206 in the aforementioned '25 regional event.

Seniors
Alfie Storer and
Lewis Beeden finished sixth and seventh, respectively. Storer had a two-under-par 70 Tuesday to conclude three rounds at five-under-par 211. Beeden shot an even-par 72 Tuesday, wrapping up his tournament at four-under-par 212.

Senior
Fynn Loewe tied for 22nd place at two-over-par 218. He shot a 75 Tuesday. Sophomore
Cole Rouse had a one-over-par 73 Tuesday to finish three rounds at 227. Playing as an individual, sophomore
Max Drott also tied for 22nd place with his two-over-par 218. Drott had his second consecutive round of 73 Tuesday.

Wingate had three under-par rounds in the Currahee Collegiate Invitational: 279, 281 and 283. The remaining 15 teams in the CCI field had three under-par rounds total. USC Aiken, Lenoir-Rhyne and Eckerd had one under-par round each.

The Lenoir-Rhyne Bears finished third at 870, four strokes behind second-place USC Aiken. Erskine and No. 12 Lincoln Memorial finished fourth (871) and fifth (874), respectively. Sixteen teams and 84 student-athletes competed in this year's CCI event.

Wingate will compete in the Copperhead Championship Monday and Tuesday, October 13-14. The University of West Florida hosts this annual event at the
Innisbrook Golf Resort, Copperhead Course in Palm Harbor.
