Wilgeroth and Boone sweep SAC Player of the Week honors

Rock Hill, S.C.----Wingate University senior Kaleigh Wilgeroth has been named the WePlayed Sports South Atlantic Conference women's lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week, while Riley Boone is the SAC Defensive Player of the Week, league officials announced Monday afternoon. Wilgeroth picks up Player of the Week accolades for the first time this year and third time in her career, while Boone earns the honor for the first time in her career.

The duo led the #19 Bulldogs to a pair of victories last week, with Wingate moving to 8-1 on the season. The 'Dogs started the week with a 10-5 win over IUP, while following with a 20-4 victory against Tusculum.

Wilgeroth piled up 12 points on the week, with six goals and six assists while adding a caused turnover and two ground balls. The All-SAC honoree scored four of Wingate's 10 goals against IUP, while also handing out a pair of assists. She followed with two goals and four assists in the Tusculum victory, adding a CT and two ground balls. Wilgeroth's six goals came on just eight shots.

Boone piled up 18 saves in the two wins, allowing just nine goals. She started things by notching a career-best 16 saves against IUP, holding the Crimson Hawks to just five goals. She notched a pair of saves in the Tusculum victory Saturday.

Wilgeroth leads the Bulldogs with 37 points, ranking second on the squad with 22 goals while handing out a team-high 15 assists. She ranks third in the SAC in assists, fourth in points and ninth in goals. Boone ranks second in the SAC in goals-against average and save percentage, ranking in the top 20 nationally in both categories.

Wingate is back in action Wednesday, hosting Newberry at 4 p.m.
