Jillian Thomas has been named the WePlayed Sports South Atlantic Conference softball Pitcher of the Week, league officials announced Tuesday afternoon. Thomas earns Pitcher of the Week accolades for the second time this season and in her career.
Thomas led the Bulldogs to a 6-0 week, which included a pair of SAC doubleheader as the Bulldogs clinched their third straight regular season SAC title. Wingate improved to 33-17 overall and 18-4 in the SAC. The 'Dogs have gone 58-12 in league play over the past three seasons.
Thomas picked up a pair of complete-game wins last week. She went 12 innings, allowing just two runs while striking out five. She started her week by allowing just two runs on five hits in five innings to lead the 'Dogs to a 10-2 victory over Newberry. She then tossed a four-hit shutout against Mars Hill, handing the Lions their first shutout in league play this season.
Thomas is 15-6 on the year with a 2.57 ERA, adding a pair of saves. She has 104 strikeouts in 119 innings of work, tossing seven complete games on the year.
The Bulldogs are back in action Friday, wrapping up the regular season with a noon doubleheader at LMU. Wingate will once again host the opening round games of the SAC Tournament as the number one seed.
