Boulder City, Nevada----The No. 2 Wingate University women's golf team has advanced through the stroke-play stage of the NCAA Division II National Championships, setting up a match with No. 4 Dallas Baptist University Friday at 10 a.m. EDT. The Bulldogs and the Patriots will compete on the Boulder Creek Golf Club layout, site of this year's championships.
 
Wingate shot its best round of stroke play Thursday with a four-under-par 284 with two rounds of two-under-par 70 or better in the four counting scores. The Bulldogs completed 54 stroke-play holes with an even-par 864, finishing eighth among 18 teams. The DBU Patriots won the stroke-play portion with an 18-under-par 846, rallying past 36-hole leader California State University San Marcos.
 
CSU San Marcos redshirt senior Madison Murr finished first on the individual leaderboard with a 54-hole total of 14-under-par 202. WGCA National Player and Freshman of the Year Amely Bochaton led the Bulldogs, tying for 10th place at four-under-par 212. Ninety-eight student-athletes representing 26 schools participated in this year's championships.
 
NCAA Championships Round 3 quick hits
 
- The eighth-place finish secured Wingate's first-ever national quarterfinals appearance
- The 'Dogs will face the top-seeded DBU Patriots in Friday's 10 a.m. EDT quarterfinal
- Freshman Olivia Meinecke shot her best round of the week with a three-under-par 69
- She had a bogey-free, two-under-par 34 on the back nine Thursday afternoon
- Meinecke moved up 20 leaderboard spots, tying for 32nd place at one-over-par 217
- Junior Thalia Perez-Vieco also had her best round of the week, a two-under-par 70
- She had a fast start with three birdies in her first five holes
- After giving back the three birdies over the next six holes, Perez-Vieco rallied
- She finished her round with back-to-back birdies on No. 15 and No. 16 for her 70
- Fifth-year senior Jess Brown was her usual super-consistent self in the third round
- She shot an even-par 72 with 14 pars, two birdies and two bogeys Thursday
- Brown tied for 21st place in her final career stroke play tourney at two-under-par 214
- Bochaton had a final round of one-over-par 73 with another highlight reel eagle
- Her Thursday eagle occurred on the par-four, 384-yard 14th hole
- Junior Lauren Sutcliffe had 15 pars Thursday with a birdie on the 18th hole
- A triple bogey on the back nine gave her a final score of three-over-par 75
 
Looking ahead to Friday's match play
 
Wingate head coach JD Lamm will lead his troops into a match-play format which includes five one-on-one contests. The better stroke play score earns each individual one point. The first team to earn three points wins and advances. The match-play semifinals will take place Friday afternoon, while the match-play championship is slated for Saturday morning.
