Academic All-America Softball Teams
Austin, Texas----The historic accolades continue to roll in for
Savanna Brooks, who has been named a first team Academic All-America honoree by the College Sports Communicators (CSC). Brooks is only the second student-athlete in the history of Wingate athletics to be named a first team Academic All-America® honoree three times.
Brooks gives Wingate 159 Academic All-America® honorees all-time, with 150 since 2000. The Bulldogs lead all schools in North Carolina in Academic All-America® selections this millennium, while ranking second in NCAA Division II. Wingate is the SAC's all-time leader in Academic All-America® honorees. She is the ninth Bulldog to be named an Academic All-America honoree three times in her career, and only the second to earn first team honors three different times, joining swimmer
Giacomo Viazzo (2018-20).
Brooks gives Wingate softball 10 Academic All-America® honorees all-time. She made her first Academic All-America squad in 2023, while adding accolades in 2024 and 2025. Prior to her honor in 2023,
Mary Claire Coyne was the most recent softball Academic All-America selection, earning first team accolades in 2019 and second team recognition in 2020.
Brooks has piled up the accolades throughout her illustrious career. A three-time first team All-SAC selection, Brooks picked up All-Region honors twice while being named the SAC and Region Player of the Year in 2024. The SAC Scholar-Athlete in 2024 and 2025, Brooks earned the prestigious SAC President's Award earlier this month, going to the top overall student-athlete in the conference. Brooks was an NFCA second team All-American in 2024 when she broke Wingate's single-season record with 19 homers. She became the first player in WU softball history to be named an All-American and Academic All-America® honoree in the same year in 2024. Brooks earned the Geddings Award at the 2025 WUSPYS, recognizing the top overall student-athlete at Wingate. She also took home the SAC Elite 23 award in 2023 and 2025.
Brooks wrapped up her incredible career in style, earning first team All-SAC honors while leading the Bulldogs to their third straight regular season SAC title. She hit .310 with 13 doubles and 15 homers, driving in 48 runs while scoring 53 times, adding five stolen bases while compiling a .642 slugging percentage.
Brooks goes down as one of the best players in SAC softball history. A career .329 hitter, Brooks blasted 60 homers as a Bulldog, adding 54 doubles while driving in 224 runs and scoring 204 times. Wingate's all-time leader in homers, RBI, total bases, slugging percentage and runs scored is the SAC's all-time leader in RBI and total bases, ranking second in homers. Brooks was the active NCAA D2 leader in RBI and total bases throughout the 2025 season, ranking second in homers.
Brooks earned her undergraduate degree at Wingate in three years, earning a 4.00 GPA while majoring in exercise science. She earned her master's degree from Wingate in 2025, completing the MASM program in May. A member of the Wingate President's List every semester at Wingate, she has also earned a spot on the SAC Commissioner's Honor Roll every year. A member of the Alpha Chi National Honor Society, Brooks was a Marshall at Wingate's 2022 commencement.
Brooks served as the president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee during her senior year, after serving as the Vice-President as a junior. A member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes throughout her time at Wingate, Brooks has volunteered with Operation Christmas Child through Samaritan's Purse. She has served with United Way Day of Caring and OneDay OneDog every year of her career, while also serving as a nursery worker at her church. Brooks has volunteered at Wingate softball camps over the last four years. Brooks and the Wingate softball team have also worked with Union County Diversified Industries, working with adults with developmental disabilities, hosting baseball and softball games with the groups through the year.
College Sports Communicators Academic All-America® program
The College Sports Communicators (CSC) began the distinguished Academic All-America® program in 1952, and since then, have recognized thousands of deserving student-athletes from numerous sports across all divisions with these elite Academic All-America® scholar-athlete honors.
Currently, the CSC sponsors Academic All-America® programs for men's and women's soccer, football, volleyball, men's and women's basketball, baseball, softball, men's and women's swimming, men's and women's tennis and men's and women's track and field/cross country. Many other sports are eligible through the at-large program.
The Academic All-America® program is comprised of divisional teams for NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. Added for the 2018-19 academic year was a separate at-large program for two-year schools and Canadian institutions. Members at two-year schools, Canadian institutions and any other institution not affiliated with the NCAA or NAIA nominate their student-athletes in all sports during the spring nomination period.
