Claudia Vallejos has been named the WePlayed Sports South Atlantic Conference women's tennis Player of the Week, league officials announced Monday afternoon. Vallejos earns Player of the Week accolades for the first time this season and second time in her career.
Vallejos led the #23 Bulldogs to a 2-0 week to open up spring play. Wingate started things by cruising to a 7-0 win at Division I foe Queens, while capping the week with a 4-3 victory over Belmont Abbey Thursday.
Vallejos went 2-0 at #2 singles and 2-0 at #3 doubles play on the week. She teamed with Mariia Bobrovska at #3 doubles to win 6-1 at Queens and 6-0 against Belmont Abbey. Vallejos prevailed 7-5, 7-6 at #2 singles against the Royals, while rolling to a 6-2, 6-2 victory at #2 singles against the Crusaders.
Vallejos and the Bulldogs are back in action Saturday, traveling to Mars Hill for a 1 p.m. start to open league play. Wingate returns home Wednesday, Feb. 25, hosting Coker at 1 p.m.
