Francis and Placide earn Conference Carolinas Player of the Week accolades

Greenville, S.C.----After opening up the Wingate University flag football program with a pair of victories over the weekend, the Bulldogs swept Conference Carolinas Player of the Week accolades. Jhenelle Francis has been named the Offensive Player of the Week, while Alana Placide is the Defensive Player of the Week.

The duo helped lead the Bulldogs to a pair of impressive victories, as Wingate kicks off its inaugural season with a 2-0 start. The 'Dogs opened the year with a 30-19 victory over Lees-McRae, while rolling to a 41-0 win at King.

Francis piled up 321 passing yards and 231 rushing yards on the day. She went 41-for-68 passing with four touchdowns, while adding five rushing TDs. She also added five tackles, one tackle for loss, one pass breakup and one interception on defense. Francis started her weekend by going 16-for-30 for 152 yards and two touchdowns to go along with 83 rushing yards and two TDs in the Lees-McRae win. She then went 25-for-38 for 169 yards passing and two touchdowns while running for 148 yards on 12 carries and three touchdowns in the King victory.

Placide led the defensive effort for the Bulldogs on Saturday. She piled up 17 tackles, adding two pass breakups, two tackles for loss and a 20-yard interception return. Placide posted six tackles with a TFL in the Lees-McRae contest. She then accounted for 11 tackles, a TFL, an interception and a pass breakup in a 41-0 against King. Placide added two catches for 16 yards in the win over King.

The Bulldogs are back in action this weekend, hosting the first two games in program history on Saturday. Wingate hosts Barton Saturday at 1 p.m., while welcoming Mount Olive to Irwin Belk Stadium at 4 p.m.
