Bryan Grier to be inducted into South Atlantic Conference Hall of Fame

Rock Hill, S.C.----Former Wingate University basketball player Bryan Grier has been selected to the 2026 South Atlantic Conference Hall of Fame class, league officials announced Friday afternoon. One of the best defensive players in the history of NCAA Division II basketball, Grier was inducted into the Wingate Hall of Fame in 2018.

Grier is the all-time leader in Division II men's basketball history with 455 career blocked shots, which is 220 more than any other player in SAC history and is 32 more than any other D2 player ever. He is seventh in all of NCAA men's basketball history in blocked shots.

In addition to his defensive dominance, Grier poured in 1,394 points, while adding 889 rebounds in his career. He posted four triple-doubles while shooting .619 percent from the field in his career. The league's all-time leader in blocks currently ranks 4th in SAC history in field goal percentage and sixth in career rebounds.

Grier is the only player in SAC history to ever have 100 blocks in a season, doing it three times, including his 151 blocked shots in 2005-06. He helped lead Wingate to a pair of SAC titles and the only region championship in Wingate men's basketball history in the 2006-07 season.

Grier will join his former teammate Sean Barnette in the SAC Hall of fame. The two were inducted into the WU Hall of Fame together in 2018, while Barnette was indcuted into the SAC Hall of Fame in 2024.

Grier is part of a five-member class in this year's SAC Hall of Fame. Receiving honors alongside Grier will be Tusculum's Bo Cordell, Mars Hill's Tim Clifton and Catawba's Melissa Powers Cox. The SAC will also honor the recipient of the Conference's Distinguished Alumni Award, which will be given to Mars Hill's Que Tucker. The 2026 South Atlantic Conference Hall of Fame Banquet will take place on May 28 as part of the Conference's Spring Meetings in Charlotte, N.C.
