Butrico, Tillett and Boyle earn major honors; 10 Bulldogs collect All-SAC accolades

Rock Hill, S.C.----The South Atlantic Conference announced the regular season men's lacrosse award winners Tuesday afternoon, with the regular season champs piling up the accolades. Vinny Butrico is the SAC Offensive Player of the Year, while Graham Tillett is the Defensive Player of the Year. Tim Boyle has been named the league's Coach of the Year. The 'Dogs have 10 All-SAC players, including five first team selections.

Butrico and Tillett lead the way on the first team, along with Kyle Spence, Joey Moran and Quad Williams. Mason McGivern is the second team All-SAC short-stick midfielder. Wingate has four players on the third team in Sean Clark, Jaxon Grant, Reno Vorderlandwehr and Austin Collins.

Butrico has poured in 62 goals this season, adding 17 assists for 79 total points on the year. He also has 31 ground balls and three caused turnovers. Butrico leads the SAC and ranks second in the nation in goals and goals per game. He is second in the league in points per game, ranking sixth nationally. He has scored multiple goals in 14 of 15 games this season, starting the year with three goals and five assists against Florida Southern, followed by a four-goal effort at Florida Tech. Butrico piled up seven goals and two assists at Coker. He scored a WU-record 11 goals at #2 Anderson, adding an assist for a program-record 12 points. He had five goals against Mars Hill, while notching four goals and six assists at Newberry. Butrico had back-to-back five-goal games against North Greenville and LMU, adding a combined four assists.

Tillett has anchored a WU defense that ranks second in the SAC in scoring defense and third in caused turnovers. The senior leads the Bulldogs with 22 caused turnovers this year, while ranking third on the team with 36 ground balls. Tillett has also scored a goal. He had four CTs and two ground balls against Florida Southern, while notching a CT and four ground balls at Belmont Abbey. He piled up three CTs and five ground balls against Mars Hill, while registering four CTs and four ground balls against North Greenville. Tillett had two CTs, two ground balls and a goal against Emory & Henry.

Spence has had another huge season running a WU offense that ranks foruth nationally in scoring offense and points per game. The senior once again leads the nation with 3.67 assists per game, while leading the SAC and ranking fifth nationally with 5.33 points per game. Spence has piled up 25 goals and 55 assists on the year, adding 25 ground balls and five CTs. He has multiple points in every game this year, notching four goals and five assists against Florida Southern while notching three goals and three assists against Coker. He had two goals and four assists at Tusculum, while piling up a goal and seven assists against North Greenville. Spence had two goals and six assists against LMU, while going for a goal and six assists against Catawba.

Moran has big another big weapon for the 'Dogs out of the midfield, scoring 32 goals while adding nine assists, 16 ground balls and nine caused turnovers. Moran ranks third on the team in goals. His three-goal effort at Tusculum capped a streak of four straight games with three points. He had four goals at Anderson, followed by a four-goal effort against Mars Hill. Moran also scored four goals at Newberry, while registering four goals and an assist against Catawba.

Williams has had another big year for the Bulldogs, leading the SAC with a 10.3 goals-against average and a .519 save percentage. He has started all 15 games, piling up 134 saves on the season while compiling a 13-2 record. Williams had 14 saves in the season opener, while collecting 12 saves at Florida Tech. He had 12 saves against LR in the Crown Classic, while piling up 16 saves at Anderson. He had 10 saves at Newberry, while registering 12 saves against LMU. Williams piled up 15 saves against Catawba in the regular season finale.

McGivern has been a huge factor in the Wingate defense at the short-stick midfield position. He has started all 14 games he has appeared in while registering 10 caused turnovers and 25 ground balls. He registered a CT and four ground balls at Belmont Abbey, while notching two CTs and two ground balls at Coker. McGivern piled up four CTs and four ground balls against North Greenville, while picking up four more ground balls against LMU.

Clark is one of the most efficient scorers in the nation, ranking second nationally with his .542 shot percentage. The junior has 45 goals and 14 assists on the season, ranking second on the team in goals and third in points. He ranks fifth in the SAC in goals per game and 11th in points. Clark piled up six goals and two assists in the season opener, while going for five goals and an assist against Tusculum. He scored three goals in the Crown Classic, while notching three goals and an assist at Lenoir-Rhyne. Clark had four goals and an assist at Newberry, while piling up seven goals and three assists against North Greenville. Clark had three goals and an assist against LMU.

Grant has 12 goals and 20 assists on the season, good for 32 total points. He also has 10 ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers. Grant had three goals and an assist at Belmont Abbey, while registering a goal and two assists at Anderson. He handed out four assists against Mars Hill, while scoring a pair of goals against LMU.

Vorderlandwehr has appeared in 13 games in his first season with the Bulldogs, playing a huge role in one of the league's top defenses. The freshman has 14 caused turnovers and 34 ground balls on the year, while adding a goal. He had two CTs and three ground balls at Tusculum, while adding a goal. He notched a pair of CTs and three ground balls at Lenoir-Rhyne. Vorderlandwehr had four ground balls and two CTs at Newberry, which he followed by registering five ground balls and a CT against North Greenville. Vorderlandwehr had three ground balls and a pair of CTs against Catawba.

Collins is another key factor in the Bulldog defense. He has registered 25 ground balls and nine caused turnovers on the year. Collins piled up six ground balls at Tusculum, adding three CTs. He had three ground balls and a pair of CTs at Anderson. Collins had three ground balls against Emory & Henry, while collecting a CT and four ground balls against Newberry.
