Emory, Va.----The three-time
defending champion Wingate University outdoor track and field teams both hold large leads after the first day of the 2026 South Atlantic Conference outdoor championship meet Wednesday. Emory & Henry College is hosting this year's SAC extravaganza inside the Food City Sports Complex.
On the men's leader board, NCAA No. 6 Wingate has 77 points. Anderson is second with 29 points, while host Emory & Henry is third with 28 points. On the women's charts, Wingate has 81 points. Catawba is second with 44 points, while UVA Wise is third with 18 points.
The Bulldogs won both 3000-meter steeplechase titles.
Firdaouss Hriche won the women's 3000-meter steeplechase for the second year in a row with a time of 11:02.53.
Julio Espinoza won the men's 3000-meter steeplechase with his time of 9:23.62.
Joaquin Campos won the men's 10000 meters with his time of 30:50.25.
Ally Holmberg had a big day. She leads the heptathlon with 2988 points through five events. Holmberg won the heptathlon 200 meters with her time of 25.43, while finishing in the top three in the other four contests. Holmberg finished second in the women's long jump with her mark of 5.82 meters.
