Wingate University senior George Williams (Fayetteville, N.C.) boosted his standing on the NCAA Division II indoor men’s high jump charts, leading the Bulldogs on day two of the Bob Pollock Invitational Saturday at the Clemson Indoor Track & Field Complex. Williams cleared 2.10 meters to finish second in an NCAA Division I-heavy field. Williams improved his national standing to number six in the country. Williams made a strong attempt at 2.15 meters Saturday, which would have been the best high jump in NCAA Division II this indoor season.
 
Williams is the first Bulldog indoor track and field student-athlete to qualify for the national championship meet. He finished tied for 15th place in the 2014 NCAA Division II national indoor track and field high jump. In the 2014 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference outdoor track meet, Williams cleared 2.05 meters to finish second. He finished ninth in the high jump at the 2014 NCAA Division II Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships, the highest national finish in the history of Wingate Track and Field.
