Danny and
Tyler Farmer (Calgary, Alberta, Canada) combined for seven goals and four assists as the number 10 Lions defeated Wingate University 13-7 in Deep South Conference action Saturday afternoon at the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium on the MHC campus.
With the victory, Mars Hill improves to 9-3 overall and 4-1 in the DSC. Wingate is 4-9 overall and 1-3 in the DSC. The Bulldogs will host Catawba College for Senior Day Saturday, April 10 at 2 p.m. The MHC Lions step out of the league fray to visit Queens University of Charlotte Saturday at 2 p.m.
A senior attack, Danny Farmer had two goals and a team-high four assists. A junior midfield, Tyler Farmer posted a season-high five goals for the Lions. The Farmers were not a two-man gang. Lion senior attack
George Hastings (Severn, Md.) notched a pair of goals and three assists. Junior attack
Eric Benesch (Bloomingdale, Ontario) recorded two goals and the same number of assists. Sophomore goalie
Dylan Price (York, Pa.) played 57:12 for MHC and made six saves.
Wingate senior midfield
Angus Derbyshire (Thurmont, Md.) and freshman midfield
Derek Watts (Winston-Salem, N.C.) had two goals each for the Bulldogs. Derbyshire added an assist. Redshirt sophomore midfield
Travis Barrett (Andover, N.J.) led the Bulldogs in assists with two. Sophomore goalie
Danny Dlugozima (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) played the entire contest in the net for Wingate and made 14 saves.
MHC outshot the Bulldogs 41-17 and won the ground ball battle 42-27. The Lions won 16-of-24 face-offs. Neither team scored on extra-man opportunities. Wingate was zero-for-three, while the Lions went zero-for-five.

T.J. Cowx (Delta, British Columbia) scored the first goal of the game at the 9:45 mark before Wingate sophomore midfield
Bryan Bayliss (Lorton, Va.) tied the game 24 seconds later. Mars Hill then scored three unanswered goals to lead 4-1 at the end of the first quarter of play. MHC won the second frame 3-2 to take a 7-3 advantage into the locker room at the intermission.
Wingate edged the Lions 3-2 in the third quarter, thanks to two goals by Watts. MHC put the game away in the last quarter by outscoring the Bulldogs 4-1 to make the final tally 13-7. Tyler Farmer scored two of those final quarter goals.
