James Tedder (Clemmons, N.C.) lined the game-winning RBI single down the right field line to give the Bulldogs a dramatic 12-11 victory over the visiting Saints of Limestone College in 11 innings Wednesday night at Ron Christopher Stadium and Plyler Athletic Field. The Bulldogs win their fifth straight, improving to 19-14 overall. Limestone falls to 8-20 on the season.

Casey Allison (Horse Shoe, N.C.) was three-for-four with a homer, four RBI and three runs scored to lead the Wingate attack. Senior infielder
Jacob Karr (Richmond, Va.) was four-for-six with two doubles, two RBI and two runs scored. Senior outfielder
Dodson McPherson (Graham, N.C.) went three-for-five with a double and two runs scored for the Bulldogs.
Senior catcher
Josh Lyon (Indianapolis, Ind.) was three-for-four with two doubles, three RBI and a run scored to lead the Limestone attack. Sophomore outfielder
Chad Balderman (Irmo, S.C.) was two-for-five with a double, three RBI and two runs scored, while senior infielder
Michael Hughey (Gaffney, S.C.) was three-for-seven with two runs scored for the Saints.
The ‘Dogs struck first in the first, taking a 1-0 lead on Allison’s RBI single. Limestone answered with four runs in the third to take a three-run lead. Lyon had the big hit in the frame, a two-run double to make it 4-1.
Wingate tied the game in the bottom of the third on one swing of the bat, when Allison lined his seventh homer of the year, a three-run shot to right to make it 4-4. The Saints regained the lead in the fifth on an RBI single from senior outfielder
Al Benson (Cherryville, N.C.). A squeeze bunt from senior infielder
Zach Howard (Mocksville, N.C.) gave Limestone a two-run lead.
The Bulldogs answered with six runs in the bottom of the frame to retake the lead. Redshirt junior first baseman
Brian Yeung (Raleigh, N.C.) plated the first run with an RBI double off the fence in right. Tedder’s RBI single plated Yeung to tie it at six. An RBI single from freshman designated hitter
Michael Benitez (Miami, Fla.) put Wingate on top, while Karr’s two-run double pushed the advantage to three. A wild pitch would plate another run, making it 10-6.
Balderman’s sacrifice fly in the sixth made it 10-7. Lyon added an RBI single to make it a two-run game. Junior outfielder
Stephen Crowe (Forest City, N.C.) led off the seventh with a homer to make it 10-9. Howard followed with a triple, then scored on an RBI groundout to tie the game at 10.
Limestone took the lead in the top of the eighth on an RBI fielder’s choice from Howard. Wingate answered in the bottom of the eighth, getting a two-out RBI single from Vazquez to make it 11-11.
That would be all of the scoring until the 11th. Allison started the rally with a one-out walk, then went to third on a single from freshman catcher
Josh Clark (Clemmons, N.C.). Tedder ripped the first pitch of the at-bat down the right field line to plate Allison, giving Wingate the walk-off win.
Redshirt junior right-hander
Josh Karr (Richmond, Va.) got the win, working the final two innings without allowing a hit, striking out one to move to 2-0 on the year. Senior right-hander
Andrew Thompson (DeLand, Fla.) took the loss, falling to 0-2. He allowed a run on four hits in 2 2/3 innings, striking out one and walking four.
Wingate returns to action Friday, traveling to Carson-Newman for a 2 p.m. start. Limestone travels to Barton Friday at 5 p.m.
