Gaffney, S.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs trailed by as many as 12 runs Wednesday afternoon, but scored 15 runs in the final three innings, falling 20-19 to Limestone College in NCAA Division II baseball action. The Saints improve to 10-23 overall, while the Bulldogs see their eight-game winning streak come to an end, falling to 22-15.
Redshirt junior first baseman
Brian Yeung (Raleigh, N.C.) had three homers and six RBI to lead the Wingate offense. Senior outfielder
Casey Allison (Horse Shoe, N.C.) also had three homers, driving in four runs. Senior infielder
Jacob Karr (Richmond, Va.) was four-for-six with a homer, six RBI and three runs scored.
Michael Hughey was four-for-six with a homer and four RBI and four runs scored to lead the Limestone attack.
Julian Bridges and
KJ McAllister drove in four runs each, combining to score five runs.
Josh Lyon added a homer and three RBI for the Saints.
After allowing a run in the first, Yeung led off the second with a solo shot to tie it. RBI doubles from McAllister and Hughey put the Saints on top 3-1 in the second. An RBI single from senior outfielder
Dodson McPherson (Graham, N.C.) made it a one-run game in the top of the third. Allison scored on a groundout in the fourth to tie it at three.
McAllister connected on a two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth put Limestone on top 5-3. The Saints added six runs in the fifth to push the lead to eight. Bridges had a two-run single in the frame, while Hughey and Lyon each added RBI singles in the inning.
Allison led off the sixth with a solo homer to make it 11-4. Limestone again had the answer, scoring five times in the sixth. Bridges started it with a two-run double, while Hughey added a two-run homer to make it 16-4.
The Bulldogs answered with five runs in the seventh to make it a seven-run game. Karr got it started by belting a three-run homer to left, his ninth blast of the year. Allison’s second homer of the day, a two-run shot, made it 16-9. Lyon’s solo homer, along with an RBI double from Howard made it 18-9 heading to the eighth.
Karr’s two-run double started the Wingate scoring in the eighth. Yeung added a two-run homer to make it 18-13. The Saints added two more runs in the bottom of the eighth, scoring their 20th run on Lyon’s sacrifice fly.

Thomas Spitz (West Chester, Pa.) got the scoring started. Karr followed with an RBI double to make it 20-15. Yeung would then connect on his third homer of the day and eighth of the year, a three-run shot to make it a two-run game. Allison would follow with his third homer of the day and team-best 12th of the year to make the final margin 20-19.
Kaleb Earls got the win, improving to 2-3 on the year. He allowed nine runs on nine hits in 6 1/3 innings of work. Sophomore right-hander
Steven Chaffee (Greenville, S.C.) took the loss, falling to 0-1. He allowed five runs on eight hits in 3 1/3 innings of work.
Wingate is back in action Friday, hosting Anderson at 6 p.m.
