Thomas Spitz (West Chester, Pa.) notched three hits and three RBI and junior right-hander
Ben Currie (Winston-Salem, N.C.) pitched his first complete game of the season as the Bulldogs defeated Anderson (S.C.) 6-3 in South Atlantic Conference baseball action Saturday night at Memorial Stadium. First-place Wingate is 20-12 overall and 12-4 in the SAC. Anderson is 9-23 overall and 4-12 in the SAC.

Brian Yeung (Raleigh, N.C.) and junior outfielder
Eric Serra (Miami, Fla.) had two hits each in five at-bats each. Yeung had one RBI, while Serra stroked a double. Currie went nine innings, allowing three earned runs (all in the first inning) on six hits. He struck out six and walked four to improve his season record to 4-1.
Wingate took the lead for good with two runs in the top of the third inning. With one out,

Bill Krebs (West Chester, Pa.) singled. Spitz followed with an RBI triple to score Krebs and tie the game at 3-3. Yeung stepped to the plate next and delivered an RBI single to score Spitz.
The Bulldogs struck first, as the visitors tallied a single spot in the top of the first inning. Serra singled to start the ball game. One out later, he stole second and third base. After another out, Yeung reached on an error to bring Serra home.
Anderson answered with three runs on three hits in the bottom of the opening frame. With one out, freshman second baseman
Chris Ayers (Hartwell, Ga.) singled and moved to second on a wild pitch. AU sophomore outfielder
Nathan Galliford (Miami, Fla.) singled to put runners on the corners. One out later, freshman first baseman
Steven Cooper (Williamston, S.C.) walked. Trojan junior outfielder
Paul Como (Missouri City, Texas) hit a three-RBI double to left center to clear the bases.
Wingate cut the deficit to 3-2 with another single run in the top of the second inning. Bulldog junior third baseman
Blake Prince (Winter Park, Fla.) started the second stanza with a single. Redshirt senior designated hitter
Jason Hunter (West Chester, Pa.) sacrificed Prince to second. Prince moved to third on a groundout and scored on an AU wild pitch.
The Bulldogs earned insurance runs in the seventh and the ninth innings as Spitz played a role in both scores. In the seventh, sophomore shortstop
Michael Godinez (Cutler Bay, Fla.) walked and moved to third on a Serra double. Godinez scored on an RBI single by Spitz. In the ninth, Spitz hit an inside-the-park home run to right-center field. Spitz has two round-trippers this season.
Six Anderson players had one hit each. Four of the Trojans’ six base raps were doubles. Como had his double and three RBI. AU sophomore right-hander
JT Trujillo (Jupiter, Fla.) took the pitching loss, hurling seven innings and allowing five runs (four earned) on eight hits. Trujillo (2-4 overall) struck out three and walked two.
Wingate and Anderson will play a doubleheader Saturday. The nine-inning game will begin at 1 p.m. in Memorial Stadium. The two teams will play a seven-inning contest 30 minutes after the completion of the first game.
