Wingate, N.C.----Wingate University sophomore right-hander
Stacey Houser (Mooresville, N.C.) tossed a five-inning no-hitter in game one, while the Bulldogs totaled five homers in the two games Saturday afternoon, sweeping an NCAA Division II softball doubleheader against GRU Augusta. Wingate won by scores of 8-0 (5 innings) and 6-5 to improve to 2-0 overall. The Jaguars fall to 0-2 overall.

Amy Wingfield (Mechanicsville, Va.) added a homer while scoring a pair of runs. Five other Bulldogs drove in a run apiece in game one.
After two scoreless inning, Wingfield ripped the first pitch she saw over the fence in the left to put Wingate on top 1-0. The second run scored on a GRU Augusta error, while an RBI double from senior outfielder

Shannen Adams (Ayden, N.C.) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the fourth, while an RBI single from sophomore infielder
Mellena Helms (Concord, N.C.) made it 5-0. A pair of bases-loaded walks put the 'Dogs on top by seven.
Saliga led off the eighth with a towering solo homer down the left field line, ending the first game at 8-0.
Houser struck out five and walked two in her five innings of work, improving to 1-0 on the season.
Paige Deschaine took the loss, falling to 0-1. She allowed five runs on four hits, striking out 10 and walking four.
Game Two: Wingate 6, GRU Augusta 5
Saliga and Wingfield homered again in game two, while Helms also added a homer to lead the Wingate attack. Junior shortstop
Alexis Burrell (Chesapeake, Va.) added a double, RBI and run scored for the Bulldogs.
Brooke Stephens was two-for-three with a homer and four RBI to lead the GRU attack.
Macy Terry added a double and an RBI for the Jaguars.
Wingate wasted no time getting on the board in game two, with Helms leading off the bottom of the first with a solo homer to left center. Burrell added an RBI double to right center, then scored on an RBI single from sophomore outfielder

An RBI double from Terry cut the lead to two in the second.
Wingfield answered with her second homer of the day in the bottom of the inning, making it 4-1. An RBI single from Stephens cut the lead to two in the third.

Katie McLaurin (Laurinburg, N.C.) added an RBI single to make it 6-2.
Stephens connected on a two-run homer in the fifth to cut the lead to 6-4. She added a sacrifice fly in the seventh to make the final margin 6-5.

Taylor Bates (Peachland, N.C.) got the win for the Bulldogs in her collegiate debut. She allowed three earned runs on six hits in five innings of work, striking out two and walking three. Junior right-hander
Miranda Paul (Virginia Beach, Va.) worked the final two innings to notch the save.
Haley Birkle took the loss, allowing six runs on five hits in six innings, walking three.
