#38 Palm Beach Atlantic hands #29 Wingate second straight 5-4 loss

 

Orlando, Fla.----38th-ranked Palm Beach Atlantic won two of three doubles matches Friday afternoon, edging No. 29 Wingate University 5-4 in NCAA Division II tennis action. Palm Beach Atlantic improves to 10-5 overall, while the Bulldogs fall to 10-4 on the season.

The Sailfish claimed two of three doubles matches on Friday, edging the number one doubles team of senior Ali Evers (Roswell, Ga.) and junior Becca Thomas (Alpharetta, Ga.) in a tiebreaker to win 9-8. Wingate's lone doubles victory was an 8-2 win from senior Morgan Winston (Lawrenceville, Ga.) and sophomore Caroline Holland (Spartanburg, S.C.).

Winston's second win of the day came at number five singles, rallying for a 5-7, 6-1, 6-2 win. Thomas overcame a 5-7 loss in the opening set by winning the final two sets 6-2, 6-0 to win at number three singles. Freshman Layla Tanik (Raleigh, N.C.) added a 6-3, 6-3 victory at number four singles for the Bulldogs.

Wingate returns to action next Wednesday, hosting Limestone at 2 p.m.
