Wingate, N.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs dropped just three games Sunday afternoon, rolling to a 9-0 victory over visiting Bluefield State College in NCAA Division II women's tennis action. Wingate improves to 10-2 overall, while Bluefield State falls to 1-8 on the season.
Wingate did not drop a game in doubles action to jump out to a 3-0 lead. Juniors
Oroma Womeodu (Memphis, Tenn.) and
Maria Garcia (San Carlos, Venezuela) won 8-0 at one doubles, while seniors
Layla Tanik (Raleigh, N.C.) and
Sierra Parsons (Toronto, Ontario) won by the same score at two doubles. Sophomore
Sydney Homan (Huntsville, Ala.) and freshman
Maria Ostoja (Split, Croatia) won by forfeit at number three doubles.
Womeodu prevailed 6-1, 6-1 at number one singles, while Tanik prevailed 6-0, 6-1 at two singles. Homan cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at three singles, while Ostoja won by the same score at four singles. Garcia and Parsons won by forfeit at five and six singles.
Wingate is back in action Tuesday, hosting Tusculum College at 2 p.m. The match features the only two teams without a loss in SAC play this season, with the two teams combining for a 13-0 record in league play.
