Bulldogs roll to 18th sweep of the year with 3-0 win at Newberry

Newberry, S.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs piled up 42 kills against just six errors Saturday afternoon, rolling to a 3-0 victory at Newberry College in South Atlantic Conference volleyball action. Wingate won by scores of 25-15, 25-18 and 25-16 to improve to 24-1 overall and 17-1 in the SAC. The Wolves fall to 6-17 overall and 4-14 in league play.

KEY STATS

- Wingate hit .350 with 42 kills and just six errors in 103 attacks
- Newberry had 35 kills and 16 errors to hit .176
- The Bulldogs had eight of the nine blocks in the match
- WU also had 11 of the 15 errors

- Sophie Schaff hit .429 with 10 kills and six blocks
- Molly Lambillotte added eight kills and seven digs
- Anne Abernathy hit .615 with eight kills in 13 swings
- Rachel Alles added five kills, 15 assists and seven digs
- Emma Ahrens hit .417 with five kills on the day
- Shannon Kasprak registered 17 assists and eight digs

FIRST SET

- A Schaff ace and Lambillotte kill gave Wingate an 11-5 lead in the opening set
- Two Lambillotte kills and an Abernathy kill made it 14-7
- Abernathy and Schaff added kills to push the lead to nine at 18-9
- Kills from Alles and Ahrens made it 24-14; Ahrens ended the frame with a kill

SECOND SET

- Kills from Abernathy and Ahrens gave the Bulldogs a 12-8 lead in set two
- Back-to-back aces from Kasey Eastland made it 16-10
- A Lambillotte ace and back-to-back Abernathy kills put the 'Dogs on top 22-15
- Kills from Schaff and Ahrens made it 24-17; a Newberry error ended the frame

THIRD SET

- Wingate used a 5-0 run to take a 7-3 lead, getting two kills and a block from Alles
- Back-to-back Lambillotte kills, along with another Alles kill made it 11-5
- Kills from Lambillotte and Schaff, along with a Maggie Mullen ace pushed the lead to seven
- Kills from Schaff and Lexie Pryd put the Bulldogs on top 21-12
- Kills from Lambillotte and Young made it 24-15; Ahrens ended the match with a kill
