Rock Hill, S.C.----Wingate University junior
Jess Brown (Cirencester, Gloucestershire, England) is the South Atlantic Conference Varsity Gems Women's Golfer of the Week for events played during the fifth and sixth weeks of the 2023 spring season. Brown receives this honor for the second time this season and for the second occasion in her career.
Brown and her WU teammates defended home turf this week, sweeping the individual and team titles at the second annual Dr. Jerry Surratt Memorial Intercollegiate tournament Monday and Tuesday. Brown earned medalist honors for the second time this season, posting a 54-hole total of one-over-par 217 on her Stonebridge Golf Club home course layout.
Brown and the Navy Blue and Vegas Gold-clad Bulldogs played two tournaments during the reporting period, starting the cycle with an appearance in Rollins College's prestigious Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational in Orlando. The WGCA No. 16 Wingate linksters finished seventh as Brown tied for 16th place at 155.
Wingate is No. 16 in the Golfstat NCAA Division II relative team rankings, while Brown is No. 60 in the Golfstat D2 individual top 150. She defeated nine players ranked above her in Orlando and four higher-ranked golfers in her home event at Stonebridge in Monroe.
The Bulldogs return to action Monday and Tuesday in the Lander University Bearcat Classic. Peach Belt Conference member Lander hosts this event at the Greenwood Country Club in Greenwood, South Carolina. The 2023 South Atlantic Conference women's golf championships are April 2-4, hosted by Anderson University at the Cobbs Glen Country Club.
