Rock Hill, S.C.----Wingate University senior shortstop Heaven Maness has been named the WePlayed Sports South Atlantic Conference softball Player of the Week, league officials announced Tuesday morning. Maness Earns Player of the Week honors for the first time this season and second time in her career.
Maness had a big week, leading #16 Wingate to a 4-0 record as the 'Dogs pushed their winning streak to 10. Wingate picked up victories over Erskine, Lander, Flagler and Emmanuel on the road to move to 12-3 on the season.
Maness went seven-for-13 on the week, hitting .538 with two homers, three doubles, nine RBI and six runs scored. She had an extra-base hit in every game, drove in at least one run in every contest, while driving in multiple runs three times.
Maness started her week by going three-for-three at Erskine with a double, homer, three RBI and three runs scored. She followed by going two-for-four with a homer, three RBI and two more runs scored against Lander. Maness added a double and two RBI in the Flagler victory. She capped her week with a double, RBI and run scored against Emmanuel, as Wingate scored five runs in the seventh inning to rally for an 8-7 victory.
An All-SAC and All-Region honoree throughout her career, Maness is hitting .286 this season with three homers, four doubles, 16 RBI and 10 runs scored, adding two stolen bases in two attempts.
Wingate is back in action Wednesday, traveling to Francis Marion for a 3 p.m. doubleheader. The Bulldogs are at home this weekend, hosting a doubleheader against UNC Pembroke Saturday at 12 p.m.
