Coker defeats Wingate in acrobatics & tumbling meet Thursday

Wingate, N.C.----The Coker University acrobatics and tumbling team sprinted to a 10-point lead in the first half on the way to a 243.240-229.115 victory over Wingate University in Cuddy Arena Thursday. Coker led Wingate 89.95-79.05 at intermission. The event was the inaugural meeting between the Coker Cobras and the first-year Wingate Bulldogs.
 
Wingate's Thursday night strength was the tumbling session, which the Bulldogs won by a narrow margin of 43.875-43.250. In the aerial pass portion, Wingate compiled 8.575 points, compared to 7.750 points for Coker. The Bulldogs won three-of-six events in the tumbling session.
 
Coker edged Wingate in the meet-concluding team event. The Cobras had 84.24 points, compared to 83.29 points for the host Bulldogs. Coker won the compulsory, the acro, the pyramid and the toss sections as well.
 
National Athletic Training Month recognition
 
In honor of National Athletic Training Month, the Wingate University acrobatics & tumbling team recognized the certified athletic trainers for Coker and Wingate in a pre-meet ceremony. The Bulldogs presented flowers to Coker's Kaitlyn Frederick and Wingate's Madi Greenfield. The tagline for the 2024 National Athletic Training Month is "From Head to Toe."
