ONTO THE CHAMPIONSHIP MEET! #14 Wingate takes down Coker to advance to Sunday’s Championship

Franklin Springs, Ga.----The top-seeded and 14th-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs are onto the Conference Carolinas championship meet, after prevailing 256.960-247.345 over Coker University in the semifinals Saturday afternoon. The 'Dogs improve to 10-0 on the season, advancing to the championship meet Sunday at 11 a.m. against #12 Lander.

Wingate built a two-point lead thanks to an impressive effort in the Compulsory section, highlighted by a 9.93 in the Pyramid Heat and a 9.75 in the Toss Heat, adding a 9.38 in the Acro Heat. The Bulldogs added another point to the advantage in the Acro section, posting a 9.60 in the 7-Element Heat and a 9.38 in the 5-Element Heat.

Wingate and Coker played to a near tie in the Pyramid section (28.85-28.83), with the 'Dogs posting a 9.70 in the Synchronized Heat, 9.65 in the Inversion Heat and a 9.50 in the Open Heat. The Bulldogs added nearly a point to the lead during the Toss section, which was highlighted by a 9.38 in the 450 Salto.

Wingate picked up another point and a half over the Cobras during the Tumbling section. The 'Dogs posted a 9.525 in the Open Pass, a 9.350 in the 6-Element Pass and a 9.200 in the Aerial Pass. The Bulldogs wrapped up the victory with an 83.51 in the Team Event to add four more points to the final margin.

The Bulldogs and Bearcats meet in the championship meet Sunday at 11 a.m., hosted by Emmanuel University in Franklin Springs, Ga. Wingate and Lander met in the season opener, with the 'Dogs prevailing 252.365-251.925 on the road.
