What They Are Saying

What They Are Saying, part two
Retired golf coach John Hackney (Atlantic Christian/Barton, Wingate, Coker)

"This week's results are remarkable achievements for Coach JD Lamm and his Wingate golf teams. To get the men's and women's programs into the NCAA championship finals in the same season, when you are the head coach for both teams, is incredible. As a longtime coach who led the Bulldog men's team for three seasons, I can attest to how much time, energy, teaching, planning and encouragement it takes to inspire college student-athletes to reach the pinnacle of their sport."

"After leading his nationally second-ranked women to a scintillating playoff performance last week in regionals that will allow them to play for the NCAA Division II National Championship, Coach Lamm and assistant coach Brian Murtagh took on the vaunted men's field in the South/Southeast Regional the past three days and emerged as runner-up against 14 other teams ranked in the top 25 nationally. Five of the seven teams who made the '25 nationals are ranked in the Top 10, so for the 14th-ranked Bulldogs to seize second was outstanding."

"There is no substitute for experience, so since the Bulldogs qualified for the NCAA Finals last season -- and have two returnees from that men's team -- I believe they will be ready to excel at the highest level in two weeks. It will be fun to watch both Wingate teams as they battle it out with the nation's best."
