‘Dogs take two at UVA Wise to push winning streak to 11

Box Score Wise, Va.----The Wingate University Bulldogs swept their third straight doubleheader Friday afternoon, picking up a pair of victories at UVA Wise in South Atlantic Conference baseball action. Wingate won the opener 10-6, while prevailing 6-2 in game two to push its winning streak to 11, with eight straight SAC victories. The Bulldogs improve to 17-4 overall and 8-2 in the SAC, while the Cavaliers fall to 6-12 overall and 3-8 in league play.

- He scored on Courville's RBI single, stretching the lead to five

FIFTH INNING

- Sullivan's solo shot to left gave the Bulldogs a 6-1 cushion
- Jake Smith connected on a three-run homer in the bottom of the frame to cut the lead to two

SIXTH INNING

- Derrick Hall's RBI single made it 6-5

EIGHTH INNING

- A hit batter started the inning, with a wild pitch moving pinch-runner Will Farrell to second
- Courville's RBI single pushed the lead back to two

NINTH INNING

- Benamati walked to start the inning, then stole second
- He scored on Groppuso's RBI double to make it 8-5
- Sullivan added a sacrifice fly, extending the lead to four
- McCammon followed with a solo shot to make it 10-5

WRAPUP

- Toney got the win, allowing two runs on three hits in five innings, striking out four
- Eli Reece took the loss, allowing seven runs on 12 hits in seven innings of work

- Smith entered the game with runners on second and third, getting the strikeout to end the threat

- Sullivan led off the frame with a double
- He scored on McCammon's RBI single to put Wingate back on top 3-2

SEVENTH INNING

- Back-to-back two-out walks and a wild pitch put Bulldogs on second and third
- Sullivan ripped a two-run double to center to stretch the lead to three
- Courville followed with an RBI single to put the 'Dogs on top 6-2

WRAPUP

- Walker got the win, tossing two shutout frames without allowing a hit
- Bo Trantham took the loss, allowing six runs on seven hits in 6 2/3 innings
