Rock Hill, S.C.----Wingate University freshman Reno Vorderlandwehr has been named the WePlayed Sports South Atlantic Conference men's lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week, league officials announced Monday afternoon. Vorderlandwehr earns Player of the Week accolades for the first time this season. He is the third different Bulldog to earn SAC Defensive Player of the Week honors this year.

Vorderlandwehr was a key part of #4 Wingate's big 16-12 victory at #12 Newberry Saturday night, as the Bulldogs stayed perfect in league play. The Bulldogs now have three wins over top-15 conference opponents, with all three coming away from Irwin Belk Stadium.

Vorderlandwehr anchored a Wingate defense that held the sixth-ranked Wolves to just two goals in the opening half, as the 'Dogs jumped out to a 10-2 halftime lead. The freshman led the Bulldogs with a pair of caused turnovers, while adding four ground balls on the night.

Wingate is back in action Wednesday, hosting North Greenville at 7 p.m.
