Wingate junior Brian Denton (Wendell, N.C.) led the Bulldogs to their second team victory of the 2011-12 season, posting a 139 to finish second at the Lenoir-Rhyne University/Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate Oct. 3-4. Denton shot a 70 Monday and a 69 Tuesday for the two-day total of 139. The Knightdale High School product claimed a spot on an all-tournament team for the second time this season. He was an all-tournament honoree at the Jay Jennison Memorial, hosted by Flagler College. On the season, Denton is averaging 72 strokes per round.
Denton and his Bulldog teammates will conclude the fall portion of the 2011-12 campaign Oct. 17-18, participating in the Will Wilson Tanglewood Intercollegiate. The annual event will be played at the Tanglewood Park Golf Club in Clemmons, N.C. The Wingate men’s golf team is number 11 in the most recent NCAA Division II head-to-head rankings, compiled by Golfstat.
