Rock Hill, S.C.----The Tusculum College women’s tennis team did not lose a set in three singles victories Saturday, completing a 5-1 victory over Wingate University in the semi-finals of the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference tournament at the Rock Hill Tennis Center.
The number two seed Pioneers improve to 17-3 overall with the victory. Tusculum will face number one seed Lincoln Memorial University in the championship match Saturday morning at 9 a.m. Wingate falls to 13-7 overall with the loss.
Wingate sophomore
Ewa Opala (Redziny, Poland) and freshman
Helen Goreski (Oakville, Ontario, Canada) earned the Bulldogs’ only point, defeating TC freshman
Megan Buckmaster (Bluff City, Tenn.) and junior
Blake Thompson (Bristol, Tenn.) 8-6 in the number three doubles match.
Wingate senior
Hollyn Alberghini (Stanfield, N.C.) and sophomore
Samantha Alschlager (Indian Trail, N.C.) lost a tough 9-8 decision at the number two doubles flight. Alberghini split sets with Thompson at the number five singles position, but the match was decided before the two combatants could finish.
