Virginia Beach, Va.----Six Wingate University indoor track and field student-athletes begin their version of March Madness this weekend as they compete in the NCAA Division II indoor national championship meet at the Virginia Beach Sports Center. Bulldog freshman distance specialist Hamza Chahid will see double duty for the No. 22 Wingate men. Chahid will run in two events: the men's Distance Medley Relay today (Friday) and the men's 3000 meters Saturday.

What They Are Saying
Wingate director of athletics Kelley Kish

"Similar to the movie Field of Dreams, if you build it they will come. Wingate director of track and field, cross country and triathlon Matt van Lierop and our dedicated assistant coaches have built our programs with SAC championships, regional titles and national qualifiers. Combine this with our newly-resurfaced track and upgraded throws, jumps and vault areas and Wingate has only scratched the surface of what this program can accomplish! For us to see both programs competing on the national indoor track & field stage this weekend in Virginia Beach affirms the talent, knowledge and skill our coaches and the largest roster on campus bring to their sport and representing Wingate each day!"
