Cleveland, Tenn.----The No. 16/18 Wingate University women's golf team occupies 11th place out of 12 competing teams following two rounds in the NCAA South Regional Tuesday. A round two score of 314 dropped the Bulldogs from seventh place to 11th place heading into Wednesday's third and final round.
Â
For the sixth time in Wingate's last seven rounds, senior
Jess Brown signed for the team's lowest individual score with her five-over-par 77. Brown is tied for 21st place with her six-over-par 150. The first team All-South Atlantic Conference performer is still in the hunt for an NCAA national championships individual berth.
Â
Sophomore
Lauren Sutcliffe matched Brown Tuesday, carding three birdies on her way to a five-over-par 77 as well. Senior
Sofia Rincon de la Torre posted her second consecutive 79, while sophomore
Thalia Perez Vieco rounded out Wingate's team tally with an 81.
Â
Checking out the leader boards
Â
SAC champion Anderson tops the 12-team leader board with a five-under-par 571 after 36 holes. Second-place Flagler had Tuesday's low round with a one-under-par 287. The FC Saints are 12 strokes behind the AU Trojans (571-583) entering Wednesday's last round.
Â
On the individual charts, Anderson junior
Kennedy McGaha shot her second consecutive 68 Tuesday. She leads the 66-player field with her eight-under-par 136. First round co-leader and Flagler sophomore
Stella Jelinek is two strokes back at six-under-par 138. Only five student-athletes are under par entering Wednesday's third and final round.
Â
What's next
Â
Wingate's quintet begins the third round on the 10th hole Wednesday morning. The Bulldogs are paired with SAC rival Limestone and Conference Carolinas champion North Greenville for Wednesday's 18 holes.
