Wingate University junior midfielder Pedro Figuiera (Sao Paulo, Brazil) scored the game-winning goal Sunday afternoon to lead the Bulldogs past the top-seeded Lander University Bearcats to send Wingate to the NCAA Sweet 16 for the first time in school history. 

Wingate led the game 1-0 thanks to a goal from Fabio Azeredo in the first half. Lander tied it with a goal in the second half, and with under a minute left, the game looked to be heading to overtime. But Figuiera took a cross from James Card with 42 seconds left, heading one into the upper corner from 12 yards out to send the Bulldogs onto the next round. 

Wingate will take on Flagler College Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Sweet 16. The winner of that contest will take on the winner of the Rollins vs. Lynn game Saturday at 7 p.m. in the NCAA Elite Eight.
