Wingate sophomore Alyssa Johnson (San Jose, Calif.) finished fifth at Saturday’s Falcon Classic, helping Wingate finish second in the 19-team field at the site of the 2014 NCAA Southeast Regionals.

Johnson was the top finisher for the Bulldogs. She finished the 6K with a time of 23:16.50 to place fifth out of 162 runners. Johnson’s strong finish helped the Bulldogs finish ahead of every team except host school Montevallo. Wingate finished ahead of the other four SAC schools in the race.

A first team All-SAC performer during her freshman season in 2013, Johnson finished fourth at the 2013 SAC championship race, helping to lead the Bulldogs to the conference title. Her 15th-place finish at the NCAA regionals last year helped Wingate win its first-ever regional championship.

Wingate is back in action Saturday, hosting the Bulldog Stampede. The women’s 5K race will begin at 10:15 a.m. on the Wingate University campus on Homecoming Saturday.
