Shelby Tricoli was named the SAC women’s basketball tournament MVP for her efforts last week. Tricoli and her teammates won the 2016 crown with victories over Catawba, Newberry and number 25 Anderson.
 
Tricoli averaged 11 points per game, starting her SAC tournament journey with 18 points in a first-round triumph over Catawba. She concluded her busy weekend with 13 points in Wingate’s championship game victory over nationally-ranked Anderson. Tricoli added eight rebounds, four assists and three steals to her SAC tournament statistics ledger.
 
The number six seed Wingate University women’s basketball team (21-8 overall) will face number three seed Columbus State University (24-5 overall) in the first round of the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional tournament in Gaffney, S.C. Friday (March 11) at 12 noon. The three-day event will be hosted by number one seed Limestone College.
