Wingate sophomore forward Danasia Witherspoon (Hickory, N.C.) was named the 2017 South Atlantic Conference tournament MVP, as she averaged 15 points and five rebounds per game (in the SAC Final Four) as the Bulldogs won the title with victories over Lenoir-Rhyne, Catawba and Lincoln Memorial. The Bulldogs (25-5 overall) earned the league’s automatic qualification to the NCAA post-season.

A second team All-SAC honoree, Witherspoon put together a stand-out season for the ‘Dogs, averaging 13.9 markers and 6.4 boards through 28 starts (29 games). She is second on the team with a 51.0 percent field goal clip and sixth overall in the SAC with her season shooting percentage. Witherspoon leads the Bulldogs and is listed seventh in the league with 46 total steals.
