Ali Evers won two matches to lead Wingate to a 5-4 NCAA Division II women’s tennis victory over number 27 Augusta State on Wednesday, Feb. 2. Evers clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Bianca Machado at the number three singles flight. Earlier in the day, Evers teamed with junior Samantha Alschlager to earn a triumph at the number two doubles position.

 

The Bulldog victory over the host Jaguars was a team effort. Wingate swept the three doubles matches, including a rally from 7-3 down at the number three slot. A freshman, Evers has not lost an intercollegiate contest in dual match play so far this season. An accomplished USTA junior player, Evers was ranked as high as number 38 in the state of Georgia and reached the top 150 in the Southern region.
