Wingate, N.C.----The Anderson (S.C.) University women’s tennis team swept the three doubles matches en route to a 7-2 NCAA Division II victory over future South Atlantic Conference opponent Wingate University Monday afternoon at the WU Tennis Complex.
With the victory, the Trojans improve to 7-5 overall. The Bulldogs are 6-4 overall. Wingate saw a three-match winning streak end Monday. The Bulldogs host SAC rival Catawba College Tuesday at 3 p.m. Anderson visits in-state foe Lander University Tuesday at 2 p.m.

Marcela Gallegos (Mexico City, Mexico) earned a 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 number two singles victory over Wingate freshman
Kelli Ferguson (Concord, N.C.). Earlier in the day, Gallegos teamed with sophomore
Shelby Anderson (Newmarket, Ontario, Canada) for an 8-4 number one doubles triumph over Ferguson and junior
Kara Stasikelis (Greenville, S.C.).

Samantha Alschlager (Indian Trail, N.C.) picked up her fourth singles victory in a row, outlasting Anderson junior
Julie Halbert (Cesson Sevigne, France) 2-6, 7-6 (3), 10-8. The two combatants played a super tie-breaker in lieu of the third set. Halbert saw a six-match winning streak come to a close against Alschlager.
Bulldog sophomore
Ewa Opala (Redziny, Poland) improved her 2009-10 singles record to 7-1 overall, thanks to a convincing 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Trojan senior
Lisa Gorman (Jonesborough, Tenn.). Anderson earned straight-set victories at the number one, three and five singles flights to clinch the road victory.
