Wingate University freshman student-athlete Iaroslav Denysenko (Poltava, Ukraine) won the 500 Freestyle at the 2011 NCAA Division II men’s swimming national championship meet Friday night (March 11) in the Palo Alto Natatorium. The Bluegrass Mountain Conference Swimmer of the Meet touched first with a new school-record time of 4:23.14.

Denysenko had a great week at the NCAA Division II men’s swimming national championship meet. Denysenkomissed a second national championship by 0.46 seconds Thursday night. He touched second in the 200 Freestyle with a school-record time of 1:36.49. Wayne State (Mich.) redshirt junior Andrey Seryy won the 200 Freestyle with time of 1:36.03.

 

On the first night, Denysenko finished fourth in the 1000 Freestyle with a school-record time of 9:07.00. He obliterated the previous school record by 13-plus seconds. On the final night, Denysenko placed third in the 1650 Freestyle Relay endurance event, setting a new school record with his 15:20.32 clocking.

Wingate finished fifth on the national meet team charts. Drury (Mo.) University won the men’s national team championship with 600.5 points. The remainder of the top five included UC San Diego (345 points), Wayne State (Mich.) University (295 points), Grand Canyon (Ariz.) University (292.5 points) and Wingate (252 points).
