Wingate senior Spencer Waganaar (Satellite Beach, Fla.) and his men’s swimming teammates helped Wingate take its sixth consecutive Bluegrass Mountain Conference championship Saturday in Charlotte. The 15th annual BMC championship meet was held at the Mecklenburg County Aquatics Center (MCAC) pool in downtown Charlotte. Waganaar won the 200 Individual Medley and participated in two relay victories.
 
In the 200 IM, Waganaar set a BMC meet record and a Wingate school record with his triumphant time of 1:46.71. His 200 IM time is also an NCAA Division II “A” cut. In the 200 Freestyle Relay, Waganaar and his three teammates set a new Bulldog record with their gold medal time of 1:20.41. The Capital One Academic All-America® candidate was a member of Wingate’s victorious 400 Freestyle Relay quartet (2:58.18) as well.
 
Waganaar’s BMC resume also includes three silver medals. He was a member of Wingate’s silver-medalist 400 Medley Relay team (3:18.69). In addition, he earned second-place individual finishes in the 100 Breaststroke (54.31) and the 200 Breaststroke (2:01.00). Next on Waganaar’s agenda is the NCAA Division II swimming and diving championships in Birmingham, Ala. March 6-9.
