Wingate University junior guard Paidrick Matilus (Boynton Beach, Fla.) was named the SAC Tournament MVP Sunday afternoon, leading the 25th-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs to their second consecutive Food Lion SAC Tournament title.
Matilus led the Bulldogs with 19.3 points per game, shooting 38 percent from three-point range and 87.5 percent from the free throw line. HE also had 3.3 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 2.0 assists per game.
Matilus started his week with a career-high 30 points in the win against Newberry on Wednesday, hitting four threes while going eight-for-eight from the free throw line. He had 14 points, six rebounds and four steals in the overtime winner over Anderson in the SAC Tournament semifinals. Matilus capped his week by scoring 12 of his 14 points against LMU in the second half of the title game, collecting three more steals.
Matilus leads the Bulldogs with 12.7 points per game this season. Wingate is the four seed in this week's NCAA Southeast Regional Tournament. The Bulldogs will take on fifth-seeded Limestone Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. at USC Aiken.
