#25 Bulldogs are 10-0 for the fourth straight year after sweep at Catawba

Salisbury, N.C.----The 25th-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs stayed perfect on the season Saturday afternoon, prevailing 3-0 at Catawba College in South Atlantic Conference volleyball action. Wingate won by scores of 25-22, 34-32 and 25-21 to improve to 10-0 overall and 5-0 in the SAC. The Indians fall to 2-4 overall and 1-4 in league play. Wingate starts a season 10-0 for the fourth straight year.

KEY BULLDOGS

- Anne Abernathy hit .438 with 15 kills to lead the way
- Rachel Alles just missed out on a triple double with nine kills, 24 assists and 14 digs, adding five blocks
- Sophie Schaff added nine kills and five blocks
- Reese Blackley hit .333 with six kills; Molly Lambillotte contributed four kills and 12 digs
- Shannon Kasprak handed out 17 assists while adding 13 digs
- Treslyn Ortiz picked up 15 digs on the day

FIRST SET

- Kills from Alles and Abernathy gave Wingate an 11-6 lead
- Kills from Abernathy and Blackley pushed the lead to seven at 16-9
- Schaff's kill gave the 'Dogs a 19-11 advantage
- An Allie Grubb kill got Catawba within three at 20-17
- Wingate pushed the lead to five at 23-18 on three Catawba errors
- A Maggie Young kill made it 24-21; a Catawba error ended the set

SECOND SET

- Jasmine Wooten's kill gave Catawba an 18-12 lead
- Two Young blocks and an Abernathy kill got WU within two at 20-18
- A Kylie Morgan kill put the Indians on top 24-21
- An Abernathy kill and back-to-back Schaff blocks tied it at 24
- Wingate staved on seven set points
- Catawba led 32-31, but a Schaff kill and Marianna Warren ace put WU on top
- A block from Schaff and Alles ended the frame

THIRD SET

- Kills from Blackley and Abernathy put Wingate on top 10-7
- Morgan's kill gave the Indians a 13-12 advantage
- A block and a kill from Abernathy, followed by a Warren kill gave WU a 20-17 lead
- Jessica Walker's kill got Catawba back within one
- Kills from Schaff and Lambillotte made it 24-21; Alles ended the match with a kill
